Heart's Of Enchantment: Part 4
Here's the next one
She opened her eyes as sunlight streamed in, hitting directly at the glowing heart that hung around her neck, as usual. Doe got up and made her bed. She hurried downstairs, and plopped herself on a seat in front of dripping-with-butter toast. She drank her milk and gobbled up her toast, and then ran to the phone. But her mother stopped her. “What?” she said, anxious to get to the telephone before twelve-thirty, which was the stopping time for calling, for Flame. “Listen here now.” said Doe’s mother. “You can call your friend later. First tend to the yard.” “Oh, please! I can’t call later!” protested Doe. “Tell her to come at three o’clock.” Replied her mother. “Okay.” Said Doe, a little sullenly. She ran on fleet feet to the telephone, and dialed the number. “Flame, call all the PowerGirls and tell them to meet at Blossom Park at three o’clock.” The answer was a definite yes. Doe skidded over the floor in her hurry, into the backyard, and unfortunately, and not deliberately, flung herself onto a bench. “Oh no!” she shouted, as she bounced off the bench and miraculously landed on a pile of grass clippings. Doe felt her neck to see if the heart was still there. It was gone! She looked in the backyard, in all the nooks and crannies.
She even checked on the
street outside. Thankfully, her mother was out. “Doe!” came two voices, seeming
out of breath. “Our hearts are gone!” “Mine too!” replied Doe. Two more voices
soared through the air. “Have you seen our hearts?”
