Secret of the Missing Diary extract one

Hiya! So recently I'm writing a story called Look At The Title Of This Post (haha). Anyway, I have something about 3300 words by now and I hope to get to 25,000. It's a bit of an unrealistic goal but I want to keep this up, so I'm going to be writing a ton every day!
So the story is a mystery genre and it gets a bit creepy at times - well not that much because I just put the creepy bits like an eerie night. So anyways, let's get reading!

In the darkest night of nights, a stirring wind blew through a town, frightening the hearts of its inhabitants. It swept through every open window, and took with it a little keepsake – a dead leaf, a piece of paper – which it left in somebody else’s hands. Ivy turned in bed, not being able to sleep. Her room was in the attic; she’d asked for it – but this night was more eerie than most. She got out of bed and closed the window, causing a bang to shake the streets. Ivy was seventeen and she wanted to be a detective, and this seemed the perfect setting for a book. She went back to bed and tossed and turned around trying to sleep; she couldn’t. Her eyes just weren’t closing. It was too cold, so she went to turn up the heater. As she walked towards the heater, she felt a prick of fear rise in her. Ivy turned from the heater, deciding to go downstairs; she’d make herself a hot drink to calm her down. As she swung open the attic door, a draft of wind came through. She shivered and closed it behind her.

Ivy groped her way downstairs, finding the landing light. As soon as she did, she turned it on and went into the kitchen. She took out cocoa mix – meaning to make hot cocoa – but as soon as she did she felt a cold breeze encircling her, trapping her. Ivy decided she would go upstairs instead and try to sleep.
Ivy pulled back the duvet from her bed and took up a book and turned on her bedside lamp. She felt too scared to sleep in the dark. And then, the warmth closed in on her, making her more relieved and sleepy. Her eyelids gave way and the book was on the floor, forgotten. Ivy was asleep.

But while Ivy was asleep, things began to happen. She had not closed the window properly, so the wind forced it open. It was getting strong, becoming a gale. The book that was on the floor was Ivy’s diary, and the wind swept it up and took it out of the window, dropping it who knows where.

“Ivy! Wake up!” Ivy opened her eyes, startled. “What?” she said, annoyed. “We’re not going to school today.” “Okay, where’s my diary?” said Ivy suspiciously. “Why would I read your diary?” asked Silva. She then left the room. Ivy was panicking. She didn’t know where it was. Her diary contained EVERY secret about her. It told a future plan. If somebody found it, her life was ruined! The reason Ivy was like this was because her family had some jewels that had been passed down in their family since the 1300’s. They were hidden, but Ivy knew where they were.  And she had written where they were. If somebody found it…Ivy couldn’t imagine. She heard a bell downstairs. It was probably her best friend Mystique, who also wanted to be a detective and knew about their family’s treasure. She could tell Mystique. She was trustable. And then Ivy heard a knock on her door.

“So you see Mystique, Silva’s, mine, my mom, even my dad’s, life would be in danger. I don’t know what to do!” “Well,” Mystique replied, “we can go looking for the diary, if that makes you relieved.” So they left the attic, and went outside. “Maybe you could ask Mye?” suggested Mystique. Mye was new at their school and lived near Ivy. Maybe she had it. So they walked over to her house and rang the doorbell.
Mye opened the door, smiling. “Hi Mystique, hey Ivy. What’s up?” Ivy gulped. She had a thing for recognizing people’s emotions, and she felt that Mye was putting on a fake smile. She nudged Mystique, who nudged her back. Ivy felt really scared in those two seconds, but then she took the plunge and asked, “Mye, I lost my diary in the gale last night. Could it by any chance be in your backyard?” As soon as she finished her sentence, she saw something change in Mye’s eyes.
