Left in place ~ anecdote

Hey! I really, really like the theme of this story I'm sharing today. Actually, it's sort of like an anecdote? I wrote this as an idea from Skellig, a novel I'm reading for English this year. Anyway, I also got inspired by the theme of summer transitioning into autumn, even though it's almost winter lol. I've also been working on Enchantment but haven't got a chance to write anything worth sharing, although I did sort of start to plan a few short excerpts.

Rainn looked at the cottage, which was slowly falling apart. Her footsteps left marks in the dust, and the wind whipped her hair until it looked like a bird's nest.

The sun-kissed brick walls of the interior looked matte and crumbly. An old workbench stood at the back, and the floor was littered with countless mementos of time. She stepped through the shards of glass, old wood and artificial jewelry; her gaze darting round, catching sight of a large softboard on one of the walls.

It was covered in old photographs, photographs of people laughing and smiling, of people glaring in anger, and of people hunched over in sadness. The setting of each photo was different, and so were the people.

Rainn carefully walked towards the back, slivers of sunlight slipping through the collapsing roof. The workbench had an old, rotting chair beside it, and on the chair was what she had been looking for: The Incomplete History of Skylake*.

She picked it up, and the chair fell apart immediately. She walked through the graveyard of items, each one left in place.

Rainn exited the cottage, and looked at the worn, dusty book in her hand. She'd have to visit this place again.
