Ember Falls - book review

Image
As I promised, here is a review of Ember Falls, the second book in the Green Ember series! I do  have more important things to do than write book reviews (such as worry about the characters in Ember's End, which are currently in mortal peril - I'm halfway through the book), but who's judging? No one is!                                            Okay, so where do I begin? This book is a great follow-up to The Green Ember, and I loved it. I don't knooooow how to review it, because it seems very hard to review without spoiling.  Well. I'll have to try. Ember Falls was exhilarating. It was intense. It was thrilling. Okay, maybe not thrilling. That belongs to the third book. But yeah.  Many of the plot twists were unexpected. There was one I saw coming a little early on, maybe because it had been hinted in the first book (a certain betrayal) but it doesn't matter. It ...

The Green Ember - book review

Image
Hi! Today I'm reviewing one of my favorite books (and will review the rest in the series)! I actually kind of thank Covid-19 for happening, because if it hadn't then Audible would have never put out a free collection of books for kids, and I never would have seen the cover and go, "I'm listening to this." So, um, thank you, Covid-19. Anyway...                                                                 *royal trumpet screeches* The Green Ember is probably one of my favorite books to date. It has awesome epic fights, awesome epic plot twists, and awesome epic sibling relationships. (Sorry, Frozen.) Heather and Picket are two ordinary rabbits living an ordinary life with their parents, and baby brother Jacks in a place called Nick Hollow which looks straight out of a Tinker Bell movie. But the sweet little plot goes epic and aw...

how to create a story character: a guide by subhana

Hello! Today I will be showing you how to create a character for your story. I have created a lot for my stories and they are actually very easy to make! Choose your character's gender, name and age. And all this should tie in with the story. If there is a certain age limit for doing certain important things your character must do (eg. time travel, supernatural abilities, etc etc) and if they have an important name that is supposed to drive the plot, then do so. Remember - don't let a character have a very unusual name for their time/place unless it drives the plot and the age limit mustn't be unrealistic (you can't make characters climb mountains and shoot guns when they're like, seven). Give your character a personality. For the sake of this post, I shall choose my character Vivian Wren as an example. The character must have strengths (eg. Vivian's good at combat, deception and is loyal) but weaknesses, too (not quick to trust anyone, very judgemental, pessimi...

Secrets of a Sun King - book review

Image
Hi! Sorry for throwing out flat posts for so long, I don't have a lot of time on my hands with this pandemic. I read a book today called Secrets of a Sun King by Emma Carroll , and I decided if I have a topic, I should write something worthy of my blog. Secrets of a Sun King  is a good book. Take note of my use of adjectives here. A good book. Good. Let's start with the good things.  The book is gold with imagery. The deserts with sand that shimmers in the sunlight, the grey, wet streets of London, the comforting warmth of Lil's grandfather's house.  I liked the plot twist at the end, even though it was a bit confusing. I had to read the passage over a few times to really understand what was happening. When I was reading this book, I felt as if it had been weaved with echoes from different sources, making it solid. It was all familiar and new at the same time, if that makes sense. But everything has shortcomings, and there are some places where this book needs more time...

battle cry - poem

Hi! This is a poem that I randomly thought of at 12 A.M. when I was supposed to be sleeping. So yeah.. --- My friends stand by my side As we run onto the field to fight I carry the banner high Up ahead, I can see the light. I lift my face towards the sky This will not be the day I die This will be the day I take flight This will be the day I set things right. When the wolves turn and hunt me down I will face them bravely and stand my ground This victory is going to be found It is time to turn this all around.

ocean wonders - tanka

Hii! This is a poem I wrote for my English homework. Because tankas are really short, I'll be copying this down here. ~ The roaring waves crash against the shore, man standing in awe. The pebbles on the sand feel spiky underfoot.

An unexpected ally - a story

Vivian’s feet felt rooted to the stony road as she recognized the person who she thought was long gone. Indigo. Her black hair flew in the wind, her green eyes glinting with malice, and her dark blue hoodie encasing her from the chill. Vivian took a step back. The gun in Indigo’s arms seemed more threatening in the twilight. It glinted eerily as the last of the sun’s rays bounced off it. She suddenly felt very vulnerable in her dark green sweater dress. “I found you,” said Indigo, her words flat and metallic. “Did you really think you could run away from me?” Vivian knew Indigo would win this fight. She was unarmed. “No,” she replied. She tried to stop the words, but this time her control failed her. “I only think – know – that I can defeat you.” When a sneer started to curl on Indigo’s face, Vivian focused and leaped on top of her. Indigo gasped with surprise as Vivian landed on her, and the gun clattered away. Indigo was wiry, but she was stronger t...
